A Potential Earthquake with Magnitude Mw 7.2 on the Northern Xiaojiang Fault Revealed by GNSS Measurement

We used near-field and regional GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) data to quantify the deformation locking ratio of Xiaojiang fault (XJF) in southeastern Tibet. The inversion based on dislocation model shows that slip rate XJF is 9–11 mm/a; depths northern, central, southern segments are 25.5 km, 12 22.5 respectively. with DEFNODE program northern segment strongest above a depth 20 while between km 26 intermediate, weakest found below km. In central segment, interface 6 Additionally, locked asperity has potential generating an Mw 7.2 earthquake along delineated. shallow zone basically consistent rupture area 1733 M 7.8 Dongchuan 1833 8 Songming earthquake, Both activity historical strong earthquakes seismicity microearthquakes recorded over recent years seem suggest imminent.
